Resolutions: I keep on making them.

I know, it's 2014 but I want to recap on my 2013 resolutions.
Here they are:
1) Run 700 miles in 2013.
2) Complete 3 family photo albums on Blurb.
3) De-clutter a few times during the year.  Thoroughly purge rooms/garage.
4) Host several dinners for friends.  Especially BBQ's in the summer.  (I got a bunch of hosting things for Christmas because after last year I realized I didn't have platters etc to host meals.)
5) Read 50 books.  It's been a couple of years since I've reached this goal so I'm going to make an effort this year.
6) Try a new recipe a month. I think this is a good one, gives us variety in our diet.  Plus I really need to learn how to make a good appetizer or side dish.  Whenever there is a potluck I fail on this dish.

What I actually did:
1) Ran 565.18 miles.  Not the 700 I intended.  I was on track until end of October when I sprained my back and basically couldn't run/work out for November and December.  :(
2) Completed no books on Blurb.
3) Was pretty good with decluttering, still have some more work but I have purged a ton of baby stuff.
4) Not so many BBQ's but I did have several dinners where I was able to use my hosting dishes.
5) Only 26, wow that was pretty dismal.  I didn't read very many good books last year so I tend to drag when I'm not interested.
6) This one was just alright.  I wasn't consistent each month but I do have a few new recipes under my belt.
No appetizer though. :(

Now for my 2014 Resolutions:
I make my resolutions like goals.  Things I'd like to accomplish over the next year.  If I don't accomplish them it's not like I beat myself up over it.
1) 700 miles run
2) Do 3 Olympic Distance Triathlons
3) Read 30 books (Down from 50 since having kid #3 I haven't reached that number.)
4) Get kitchen remodel done!
5) Read at least 1 book a month off my bookshelf.  I'm notorious for checking books out from the library or on my kindle.

What I've done so far:
1) Ran 158 miles
2) Need to work on this, should actually sign up for my races.  I've scoped them out for May/June/August
3) I've read 4 books so far.
4) Need to start calling contractors!

Resolutions 2013 revisited

Update May 2013
1) I'm at 263 miles so far.
2) Um, not even close to getting an album done.
3) Just took 4 boxes of stuff to Goodwill today!  Have also been selling many old baby items online.
4) My neighbors and I have started a Friday dinner swap.  Every Friday we can, one family hosts and prepares dinner, the other family brings wine/beer/drinks.  Does that count?
5) I'm really behind on this...I've read 13 books so far this year.
6) Not so good on this one either...

Resolutions 2012 Completed

The Resolutions:
January 2012
1) Cook a new recipe once a month. (And post them here if I like it.)
2) Run 500 miles. I have already signed up for 2 half marathons (One in April and one in May)
3) Lose the 7-8 lbs I'm still carrying of baby weight.
4) Try new classes. Look for groupons or deals to experiment with different fitness classes in my area. I've already started a boot camp class that I bought on groupon.
5) Read 50 books. (I'm on book two right now.)
6) Host several dinners for my friends, especially the ones I haven't seen in ages.

Resolutions revisted.
1) I know I tried at least 12 new recipes if not more, it came in bursts so it wasn't monthly.
2) I ran 612.21 miles this year so I surpassed my goal by far.
3) I lost all the baby weight, woo-hoo!
4) I tried bootcamp, and I signed up to teach BOSU so kinda half completed this goal in my opinion.
5) I totally failed on this resolution.  I read 36 books.  I tried lowering my goal to 40 books but couldn't even reach that.  I guess if I didn't run the extra 1,000 minutes I could have used that time to make my reading goal but maybe working out was a better choice?
6) Host several dinners, I can name perhaps a handful of dinners I hosted for people I haven't seen in a while, but several with friends I see often.

500 miles met!

Resolution met and surpassed.
I made my 500 mile goal during my Oktoberun 1/2 marathon.  I'm now at 522.28 miles this year.  Maybe I can hit 600?  We'll see, November and December are hard months to get a lot of miles in due to school holidays and holidays in general.

2012 Resolutions

What I've accomplished so far:  As of June 2012
1) I have attempted a few new recipes...I will have to post them here.
2) I'm up to 300 miles ran this year. :)
3) I have lost all of the baby weight!!  A couple of months ago I accomplished this one!
4) Other than the boot camp class I haven't tried another fitness class or other class.
5) I"m only on book 15, gotta speed up my reading.
6) I've had 2 dinner parties so far, well big dinner parties.

Now as of September 2012
1) New recipe trying sort of dwindled as well as me posting them.  I have been reading magazines and ripping recipes out but those have just ended up in a pile in my kitchen.
2) I'm up to 454.48 miles...and I have a 10k coming up this Friday, a half marathon in 3 weeks, definitely will accomplish this goal.
3) In June I ate something that threw my stomach out of whack where I ended up eating only bread and water for 3-4 days and ended up losing 4 more pounds.  I thought it would come back and I'd be back to my pre-baby weight, but 3 months and it's still stayed off despite not changing anything in my diet or exercise.  So I'm now down to my college days weight, the college days when I wasn't in training/athletic mode.  When I was in college/early 20's and working out a lot for a race, I always gained a few pounds.  I'm hoping I keep it off.  :)
4) I attended a local Adventure Run at Road Runner Sports in my town.  Does that count?  It was something new.  I really enjoyed it and hope to do a few more this year.  I'm working with my boss at the YMCA to attend a training or two on some new classes for me to teach.  We'll see what I get into.
5) I'm up to book 30.  I gotta really cram to reach this goal.
6) I've had a few more dinner parties, not as much as I'd like, so I'd better start setting up some more.  Off to send some emails...

Resolutions for 2012

As I think about 2012, I feel excited about all of the things I want to do.
I did not reach my goals for 2011, so I will add them to this year in hopes I will complete them.
So my resolutions:
1) Cook a new recipe once a month. (And post them here if I like it.)
2) Run 500 miles. I have already signed up for 2 half marathons (One in April and one in May)
3) Lose the 7-8 lbs I'm still carrying of baby weight.
4) Try new classes. Look for groupons or deals to experiment with different fitness classes in my area. I've already started a boot camp class that I bought on groupon.
5) Read 50 books. (I'm on book two right now.)
6) Host several dinners for my friends, especially the ones I haven't seen in ages. It's hard for us to get out with 3 kids so I'm bringing people to me. I lure them in with dinners and playdates. :) I've hosted one tonight actually for my college roommate/bridesmaid and her boyfriend. I have sent out 2 emails to other people to try and coordinate dates. Now that I have a dining room, let the feasts begin. I told my husband when we were adding on that I really wanted a dining room and once I had one I'd be using it a ton. Sure enough...we've been getting use out of it.

2011 Year in Review

This year was chaotic.
January-March was pretty normal. Feb we did a trip to Tahoe.
March started interviewing contractors to add on to our house. Found out baby #3 is a girl.
April-Girl's weekend away to Napa. Submitted paperwork to the city for permits.
May- Ran a 5k at 28.5 weeks pregnant
June-Ran a 5k at 30.5 weeks pregnant and our house addition starts (end of the month)
July- E's 2nd birthday and his choking incident. Start maternity leave.
August- Baby Girl named A is born the day before my birthday. :) Also the wall between our kitchen and new addition is torn down a few days after we come home from the hospital. Talk about a mess in our crowded house! And M starts kindergarten!
September- E's back in the ER for stitches on his forehead. (Accident prone?)
October- By the end of the month the addition is done. We get to move in.
November- M turns 5 years old. Our house is finally complete. (Old bathroom and bedroom remodeled.) We host Thanksgiving this year in our bigger home.
December-Hubby's birthday and Christmas. As well as every weekend M has birthday parties to attend.

We survived through so much this year. It was rough at times. Especially during the remodel. The house was a disaster, dusty, crowded, loud etc and all the while with a newborn. Kindergarten was a transition for the whole family. We have now adjusted to being a family of 5, we have space in our house and we've established a good routine that works for us. I'm finally able to relax in the evenings though sometimes that means crashing early.

Though I wasn't able to reach my goals for 2011, I'm sure I'll more than make up for them in 2012. ;)

Running talley: 217.42 miles. Very short of my 300 mile goal.

Book talley: 37 books out of my 50 book goal.

New Years Resolutions

Last year I wanted 3 things:

1. Read 50 books---check
2. Run 500 miles---check (I actually ran 600 miles! I ended up increasing my goal to 600 in November when I finished off Nov at 548 miles run.)
3. Run a sub-2 hour half marathon. ---incomplete. :(

This year, I decided to be a little easier on myself and come up with a resolution that will benefit me and my whole family. I also included hubby in this resolution. Each month this year both he and I have to come up with one new recipe each to try and cook. Hopefully the recipe will be a success and we can add it to our recipe list.

We did this when we were dating years ago. But back then when we didn't have kids, we did a new recipe each a week. I'm thinking me coming up with one new recipe, 12 in a year is not too bad. This month, I'm going to attempt chicken fetticini alfredo. Anyone have a good recipe?

Books Read 2011

Keeping in line with books read. Here's the start of my list for 2011.

1. Dixieland Sushi by Cara Lockwood
2. Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls I enjoyed this book. I had read The Glass Castle and was impressed/horrified by the story, this book is tamer than GC, but has wonderful stories. I love the gumption the grandmother Lily has. She's a force to be reckoned with.

End of 2008

I did it. I made my 500 mile running mark and 500 mile (outdoor biking) goal as well. The downfall of running 3 miles everyday meant my shin where I experienced a stress fracture 3 years ago started acting up. My dad (a dr) thinks there still is a stress fracture there. Great!

As for my 2009 New Years Resolutions:
  • Save more money.
  • Remodel our house. (We need more room for new baby.)
  • Fitness goals: Well with being pg and having 2 kids it'll be tough but I'll aim for 300 miles of running this year. Maybe squeeze in a 1/2 marathon in October/November. Maybe even a sprint triathlon. (We'll see how I feel come June.)
